Prof. Zhongmu Li, Chair of the Silk Road AREA, Visits the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute in Kazakhstan
To further advance international scientific research cooperation, actively respond to China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), boost the construction of Yunnan’s radiation center facing South and Southeast Asia as well as the development of astronomy and information disciplines at Dali University, and expand the university’s international influence, Prof. Zhongmu Li—Dean of the Institute of Astronomy and Information (IAI) of Dali University and Chair of the Silk Road Astronomy Research and Education Alliance (Silk Road AREA)—was invited to pay an academic visit to the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute in Kazakhstan from December 2 to 9, 2025.
During the visit, Prof. Zhongmu Li and Prof. Chingis Omarov—Director of the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute and Vice Chair of Silk Road AREA—jointly signed a Memorandum of International Cooperation. Additionally, representatives from China, Kazakhstan, Germany, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and New Zealand convened the online preparatory meeting for the 2nd Academic Seminar of the Silk Road Astronomy Research and Education Alliance.
This visit has ushered in a new chapter of substantive cooperation between the two parties in the fields of astronomical research and high-performance computing. It effectively promotes bilateral joint research, resource sharing, and researcher training, while further advancing cooperation among countries along the Silk Road in astronomy and high-performance computing.
